Donovan Knight is no stranger to top secret assignments, and he is good at what he does. He assumes this one is the like the others, but is stunned to go back in time to pull off saving the planet. Consequences abound, whether he is successful or not, not to mention the whole distorting the time-space continuum thing. But the survival of the future, and more importantly, his family, depends on his mission succeeding, and there is nothing more important than his family. In the interest of full disclosure, I am a Survivor fan, and am happy to support contestants, hopefully without the obvious fangirl nerding out. Upon discovering that Mr. Sheppard wrote this book, I immediately had his voice in my head reading it to me, which made it all the more fun. The plot moves quickly, and while I question some of the timey-wimey parameters, it’s a great read with a few twists and turns along the way. Mr. Knight’s motivations are very clear, and it makes for an interesting decision making process for him. I really did enjoy the book and for anyone looking for a light sci-fi read should pick it up.

The Legend of Things Past Phillip William Sheppard 9780692428566 Books Reviews
The Legend of Things Past is an easy read in the Sci Fi canon. Filled with boundless imagination from the best of genre tropes - Star Trek teleportation, flying cars, clones, laser guns - it swings for the fences with a world at the brink of disaster. The heart of the story is a twist on the Grandfather Paradox - if hero Donovan Knight travels back in time to face what might be the super villain his grandfather truly was, will he live through it?
A solid second effort from author Phillip Sheppard in this James Bond- like story of a military man sent to save the world. Mind the plotholes and read it for the relentless pace of action.
An great story line from an author with a talented imagination. Would highly recommend.
Several hundred years in the future, science has progressed to the point where natural resources and extinct animals can be freely replenished and people live linked to chips or watches that keep them connected to everything. Donovan Knight, an investigator, is tasked with a mission that the masses would still believe is impossible time travel to the past to get to the root of a mysterious, deadly illness his grandfather may have created. Its a mission he cant refuse, as his wife is already showing fairly advanced stages of the illness. To add, there is a terrorist organization that amasses more members every day.
The story moves swiftly, leaving no room to become bored. I think the descriptions are just right, leaving some room to image while filling in all the important bits. Some things were a bit silly or hard to suspend my disbelief on, but I was still entertained by story as it went on. It addresses some things like paradoxes caused by time traveling, etc. The book is focused from Donovan's point of view, with each chapter delving into his past and present as he races to either clear his grandfathers name or discover why he'd create a virus that could kill all humanity. A combination of sci-fy and detective novel, The Legend of Things Past is a not-too-shabby attempt that manages to be quite entertaining and channel the style of classic novels of the genre.
For those of you that like action, Survivor star and TV personality Phillip Sheppard delivers again with this twist-filled sci-fi novel, his second book so far. This one revolves around the complexities and paradoxes of time travel, meeting your own grandfather before you were born, oh, and by the way saving the planet while you're at it. Plenty of exciting action, conflict, imagination, and futuristic science rounds out a really fun read.
I bought this book for reading material before departing on a cruise and it was a perfect choice. It is a very imaginative, optimistic but not too far fetched vision of the future in which classes and villains still exist but science has cured many of humankind's current problems. The main plot is intriguing and I thought it was well woven into the characters while leaving space for Phillip Sheppard's vision of the future to take shape. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys Sci-Fi and is looking for a fun read.
Donovan Knight has a deadly virus, but he doesnt know it yet. The first to be infected with a virus that seems harmless it soon spreads across the world. No one is sick, there seems to be no effects, and Donovan continues his work of improving the world by hunting terrorists. Until one day everything changes. His superior officer sends him on a mission, back in time. It the near future the virus will become deadly so Donovan goes 80 years into the past to prevent it from ever being spread. He is forced to reevaluate everything he knows to be true as his own Grandfather, then man who raised him seems to be the prime suspect behind the biological attack on humanity.
A very intriguing book. I couldnt put it down and read it in a few hours. I am very excited to read the next installment to see how they continue to protect the world from Tobias. There were some glaring spelling errors that really needed editing as well as some character name inconsistencies that made for some confusion at some points, Im still confused who Natalee is. But all in all, a great read I throughly enjoyed.
Phillip William Sheppard hearkens back to some classic science fiction in The Legend of Things Past which gives us a look at a future that could quite possibly end up happening and throws everything out of whack with time travel.
In the novel we follow Donovan Knight, a specialist who while living in a world that could be ideal compared to our own actually is on the brink of seeing humanity decimated by terrorist attacks. Specifically one that delivers a biological agent into the populace.
To save the world he must travel back in time when our world is still the mess that it is today in order to safe his future. Only, in order to do so will he set off a paradox that could prevent him from even being born? Or is the timeline the way it is because of his very actions in the past?
The Legend of Things Past is a fast paced action filled science fiction thriller that should keep you coming back page after page.
